360 Photobooth Freetown runs a 360 video booth at events across the Western Area, and the dry season from December to April is when outdoor bookings come into their own. Why the dry season suits outdoor booths
From May to November, any outdoor booth needs a covered fallback, because storms arrive quickly. In the dry months the risk drops, so hosts can plan the booth where they actually want it: on a beach terrace at Lumley, in a garden in Hill Station, or on a rooftop in the West End.
The Harmattan
From December to February, the Harmattan brings dry, dusty air from the Sahara. It is often Freetown’s coolest time of year, which guests appreciate, but the dust settles on everything. For the booth, that means:
- the lens and ring light need wiping between sessions, which the attendant does;
- a backdrop can look hazy in long-distance shots, so a closer background works better;
- guests in dark outfits may want to check for dust before stepping up.
Planning an outdoor setup
- Ground. The platform needs a firm, level area about 3 m by 3 m. On sand, a base goes down first.
- Wind. Evening breezes off the ocean carry sand. The booth faces away from the wind.
- Light. The half hour around sunset gives the best background. After dark, the ring light keeps guests lit.
- Power. The booth runs on its own backup power, so it does not need sockets on a beach or in a garden.
